celery “trees”

Since we’ve been talking about what happens to the leaves in fall, I thought it would make sense to put out some celery in food colouring so the children could understand how the leaves “hold the food” for the tree.  “There’s something new!”  is what I heard as soon as the children noticed the change at the discovery table.  I want the children to have many opportunities for authentic literacy experiences, so I also put out some clipboards with magnifying glasses and pencil crayons to inspire these young scientists to observe and record the things they notice.
